Steven Guilbeault Steven Guilbeault

Founding member of Équiterre since the early 90’s Steven Guilbeault has been an internationally recognised proponent for climate change and the environment. For over ten years Steven
co-ordinated the Campaign on Climate and Energy for Greenpeace and Greenpeace International.

Steven is currently a columist for several Media and newspapers, Le Métro, and the Hebdos de Transcontinental. He was also a guest columnist for different radio stations such as; Radio-Canada, radio 98.5, La Presse newspaper, Corporate Knights, and Voir. Mr. Guilbeault was a Consultant for Deloitte and active in many meetings on climate changes at the United Nations.

In 2008 Mr. Guilbeault was nominated “Militant of the year” by ICI magazine.

Independent Consultant 'Sustainable Development'


Bernard Mazijn is an Independant Consultant on Sustainable Development, primarily working for international organisations. He is co-founder of the Centre for Sustainable Development at Ghent University (Belgium) and as well as Visiting Professor.

For twenty years, Bernard has occupied strategic functions within public institutions (by local to international authorities) in which he played a leading role in decision-making. He has been, inter alia, director of the policy unit Sustainable Development and Social Economy in the cabinet of the competent Secretary of State for Sustainable Development and Social Economy in the Federal Government of Belgium (2004-2007).

From 2002 to 2007, Bernard was a member of the Expert Group on Technology Transfer under the aegis of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Bonn (Germany). In 2006 he became Chair of the same organization. In 2004 he is Chair of the ‘Project Group on the Integration of Social Aspects into Life Cycle Assessment’. The Group works under the umbrella of the UNEP/SETAC Life Cycle Initiative in Paris. In 2009 it published Guidelines for a Social LCA. From 2006 he was Chair of the Fund for the Reduction of the Global Energy Cost, a Belgian fund of 250 million Euro. The aim of this public fund is to support investments in energy efficiency in the residential sector. During the period of 2009-2010, he is Chair of the Annual Meeting of Sustainable Development Experts in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Mr. Mazijn has a degree in Agricultural Engineering from Ghent University with a specialization in Hydrobiology, and an Engineering diploma in Environmental Sanitation. He also earned a postgraduate diploma in International Cooperation and Development with a specialization in Economic Aspects.
Guido Sonnemann Guido Sonnemann
Program Officer for Innovation and Life Cycle Management UNEP DT


Guido Sonnemann is a Program Officer with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Technology, Industry and Economics Division, Production and Consumption Branch. He oversees its activities in product innovation and sustainable consumption. He also coordinates the Secretariat of the Life-Cycle Initiative set up by UNEP and SETAC to promote life-cycle approaches to sustainable products and services. He is active in the Global
e-Sustainability Initiative (GeSI), particularly with regards to Supply Chain Management in the telecommunications sector. He also works on waste prevention and recycling projects.

Mr. Sonnemann has been a consultant to the Chemical Technology Centre in Tarragona (Spain) on life-cycle assessment and advances in waste management.

Mr. Sonnemann helps Cycle Capital to benefit from the latest developments in applying life-cycle assessments to technology. He also brings access to international firms with sustainability initiatives already in place.

Mr. Sonnemann has a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Rovira & Virgili University (Tarragona), and an Engineering diploma from Technische Universität München in Germany with a specialization in Environmental Engineering. He also has a postgraduate diploma (D.E.A.) in Water Chemistry and Microbiology from the École supérieure d’ingénieurs Université de Poitiers in France.
